NULLA DIES SINE LUX. DRAWINGS BY ISIDRE MANILS

"The appropriate phrase, "Nulla dies sine linea" by Appelles, the renowned painter of ancient Greece, means "no day without a line", no a day without drawing or writing at least one line. That is the purpose of Isidre Manils with his drawings. Paraphrasing the classic quote, I am giving it a different meaning. I understand Manils'drawing with the clear purpose of not lettting a single day pass without studying the light: "Nulla Dies Sine Lux".

Over a high quality paper giving off an intense white light, the artist begins his ritual and transforms the luminous surface into a completely dark one using Siberian charcoal. He reaches the deepest of black tone and then, once he faces such darkness, he fins the white light again as he removes the dust using a rubber and thus getting rid of the substance [...]

His drawings and paintings entail an artistic manifiesto of evancescence and of extreme ligthness. As it removes the dark matter, the artist allows the images of the world to vitally settle, to fall like veils, like steam or smoke, like breaths of life on the delicate surface of the paper".  Jesús Martínez Clará

UNA CIUTAT | JOAQUINA MORAGREGA

9 November - 14 Deceember 2024
Opening at 12h

A CITY, 2000-2024
My exhibiton project revolves around the representation of urban amb suburban landscapes, spaces that often go unnoticed in our daily lives. I try to capture places where architectural and organic elements coexist, revealing the extraordinary that often hides behind the seemingly ordinary.

The work unfolds in several formats and materials. Each of the pieces, whether paintings or sculptures, is designed to lead to think about those places that we go through daily, but which we rarely look at with the attention they deserve.

The exhibition seeks to capture the essence of the urban, highilghing is simplicity and its potential to reveal the extraordinary amid an apparent stilness. JOAQUINA MORAGREGA

1974-2024 | 50 AÑOS CÀNEM GALERÍA

December 21, 2024 - February 22, 2025

Cànem Gallery opened in 1974 with the inaugural exhibition "Boix, Heras and Armengol". The three young and emerging creators of the Valencian artistic scene embodied the precise, courageous and free gaze that the moment of political and cultural effervescence needed. The same line of reflection, commitment and coherence has bee present over 50 years in their gallery as well. Their artistic perspecrtiva has been dismantled and rebuilt, rising to celebrate the passion for art, territory and life. An invitation to celebrate and continue.
