The Lightness of Ashes (La lleugeresa de la cendra) is a project by artist Vicent Carda (Burriana, 1962) that revolves around the ashes generated during the burning of orange tree pruning waste. He descontextualizes and alters the usual account of work in the fiel, using the ashes as a tool for drawing and not as a waste or a poorly qualified material. It is a quite the oposite as the ashes are recovered for a new use, the visual, the artistic, from a conceptual idea of narrating the time and memory thar the artist himself has experienced.
The project aims to open new lines of reflection on current issues such as the transformation of the rural world, the memory and the agrarian cultural identity. The artist has created, through drawings and three-dimensional pieces, a unique installation for the Cànem Gallery.

"MIQUEL GOZALBO has shifted his eyes and his gaze inwards, making of the eyelids the cloak that insinuates the new works, but this ocular tissue, warm and moist, is, in fact, the hard and absorbent fabric on iron. A fabric, like a tunic of scales, that embraces the object. No one yet knows whether, when extracting the fabric, as in a magic game, the object would be ther or not." Rafael Menezo

"Once you get to the workshop, a whole life passes before you, a lifetime of art and precision, of magic and craft, of recollection of all the work conceived in the studio open to comtemporaneity, to innovation, and to learning. Many of us passed through the workshop draw the plates with lines and stains. We played like children and learned to understand an art we had seen in Dürer and Rembrandt, Goya, also in Picasso, Miró and Tàpies, but of wich we were unaware of its persuasive power, its strength, its poetic, and, of course, its magic.
